In TVING’s original series “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier,” Lee Sang Yi appeared as Captain Hwang Seok Ho, the commander of the 4th Company. Through the role, he filled the episode with comedy, charisma, emotional warmth, and a strong sense of narrative presence.

Hwang Seok Ho first caught attention as a character viewers could not hate. After receiving a commendation as the representative of the best company in KCTC training, he became emotional and said: “Living long enough, a day like this really comes.”
His constant thanks to the people around him, along with his expressive reactions, created a friendly and humorous charm. The comedy continued after Hwang Seok Ho broke both arms while throwing himself in to save Kang Sung Jae, played by Park Ji Hoon. Even while wearing casts, he tried to send a rescue request through Morse code.

His emotional roller coaster becoming excited after one call from the battalion commander, only to fall into disappointment moments later gave viewers plenty of laughs. Behind Hwang Seok Ho’s playful energy was a leader who truly cared about his soldiers.
When a signboard blown by strong winds came flying toward Kang Sung Jae, Hwang Seok Ho did not hesitate. He threw himself forward to protect him. That moment revealed a very different side of the character. Instead of only being clever and funny, he showed the responsibility of a commander who moves first when his men are in danger.

Another line captured his quiet guilt and affection: “I promised that no one would get hurt, but it is not easy.” Through that one sentence, Lee Sang Yi delivered the pressure and responsibility carried by a commander. With just one special appearance, Lee Sang Yi managed to carry laughter, emotion, and story development all at once.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang Yi will continue his active schedule by appearing on Mnet’s “M Countdown” on June 11, where he will perform “My Flavor” by Migak Boys.
