Actor Kim Soo Hyun has officially returned. One year after tearfully pleading his innocence during a press conference, the actor has now expressed gratitude to fans, saying, “Thank you for trusting and waiting for me.”
On May 27, Gold Medalist released an official statement regarding the recent arrest of Kim Se Ui, head of the controversial YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, who had previously spread allegations involving Kim Soo Hyun.
According to the agency, “Following the investigation into multiple complaints and lawsuits filed by Kim Soo Hyun and our company against Kim Se Ui and Garosero Research Institute, authorities confirmed that the various allegations and evidence presented against Kim Soo Hyun were false.”
The agency further explained that the KakaoTalk conversations revealed during previous press conferences were allegedly fabricated and manipulated. They also claimed that audio recordings attributed to the late actress were generated using artificial intelligence technology.
“The KakaoTalk messages presented during the press conferences were found to be manipulated conversations involving unrelated third parties and had no connection to Kim Soo Hyun. Additionally, the deceased’s voice recordings were confirmed to be fabricated materials created using AI technology,” the statement said.
Gold Medalist added that the court had issued an arrest warrant against Kim Se Ui due to the seriousness of the case, which reportedly includes charges related to defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, stalking, violations of special laws regarding sexual crimes involving illegal recordings and distribution, coercion, and threats.
The agency stated, “We deeply appreciate the efforts of investigative authorities for revealing the truth based on objective evidence.”
The statement also referenced Kim Soo Hyun’s emotional press conference from one year ago, during which the actor declared, “I won’t ask you to believe me. I will prove it myself.”
According to the agency, the past year had been dedicated entirely to fulfilling that promise.
“Kim Soo Hyun’s past year was solely devoted to keeping that promise. Finally, through legal procedures and a thorough investigation, the truth has been proven,” the company stated.
The agency concluded by thanking supporters, saying, “We sincerely thank everyone who trusted and waited for Kim Soo Hyun during this time,” signaling the actor’s official return to public activities.
Previously, on May 26, Kim Se Ui was arrested on charges related to spreading false information about Kim Soo Hyun. Judge Boo Dong Sik of the Seoul Central District Court reportedly approved the arrest warrant, citing concerns over evidence destruction and risk of flight.
Kim Se Ui faces charges including defamation, intimidation, attempted coercion, and violations of laws regarding illegal recordings and distribution under the Special Act on Sexual Violence Crimes.
Despite the arrest, Kim Se Ui reportedly continued denying all allegations after the warrant hearing, stating, “I do not admit to any of the charges.”
Authorities allege that Kim Se Ui spread claims suggesting Kim Soo Hyun had dated the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was still a minor and that pressure related to debt repayment from Kim Soo Hyun’s side directly contributed to her death.
Investigators also believe that AI-generated audio was used to fabricate false claims damaging Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation. In addition, authorities reportedly concluded that KakaoTalk conversations presented during a March 2025 press conference claiming a relationship between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had also been manipulated.
