Taeyang recently opened up about BIGBANG’s unforgettable Coachella performance, including the surprising backstage story behind Daesung’s viral trot stage that sparked massive reactions online.
Appearing on the YouTube program Psick Show through the channel Psick Univ, Taeyang reflected on the group’s Coachella appearance held in April and revealed how overwhelming the experience felt in person.
The singer admitted he was stunned by the enormous crowd gathered at the world-famous music festival.
“I couldn’t imagine there would be that many people,” Taeyang shared. “Fans had waited for us for such a long time, and the moment we stepped on stage, the cheers completely exploded.”
According to the BIGBANG member, hearing the audience loudly sing along to the opening track Bang Bang Bang instantly made the entire performance feel worthwhile.
Taeyang also explained why he selected his solo hit Ringa Linga for the festival stage. He believed the energetic song perfectly matched Coachella’s atmosphere and would be effective in hyping up the crowd — a decision he says ultimately exceeded expectations.
However, the most talked-about story involved Daesung’s unexpected performance of the trot song Look at Me, Gwisoon, which quickly became one of the festival’s most viral moments.
Taeyang revealed that the group initially debated whether performing a trot song at Coachella was a good idea.
“G-Dragon has many energetic songs, and I also have tracks suitable for festivals, but for Daesung, we wondered whether we should try trot music,” Taeyang explained.
The singer even admitted he was personally worried at first.
“Honestly, I kept thinking, ‘Is it really okay to perform this song at Coachella?’ So I was pretty nervous,” he confessed.
According to Taeyang, he was actually the one who suggested Daesung reconsider the idea. However, Daesung reportedly remained completely confident in his decision.
“Daesung said that at Coachella, who else besides him could perform trot music? He trusted himself completely and thought, ‘This is exactly who I am,’” Taeyang recalled.
The BIGBANG member also shared that international audiences reacted far better than expected. While many attendees initially appeared surprised — and even experienced a degree of cultural shock — the crowd eventually became fully immersed in the energetic and playful atmosphere of the stage.
Daesung’s unexpected trot performance later became a hot topic across social media, with many fans praising BIGBANG for confidently bringing a uniquely Korean music style to one of the world’s biggest music festivals.
