According to an exclusive report released on May 20, Kim So Hyun has been cast as the female lead in the mystery-occult project, which is currently in pre-production.
The film has already attracted major attention thanks to its lineup and production background. “Modub” is being jointly planned and developed by Showbox, the investment and distribution company behind the box office hit Exhuma. Exhuma became one of Korea’s most successful occult movies in recent years, raising anticipation for the new project.
Veteran actor Yoo Hae-jin, known for the smash hit The King’s Warren, was previously reported to be joining the film. The historical drama famously surpassed 16 million moviegoers in South Korea.
Actor and idol Yim Si-wan has also been cast in the project following his recent global popularity through Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3.
With Kim So Hyun now joining the cast, viewers are already anticipating the chemistry between the three stars in the dark supernatural thriller.
Although Kim So Hyun previously participated in the Korean dubbed version of Your Name in 2017, her last on-screen film appearance was in The Last Princess, where she played the younger version of Princess Deokhye.
“Modub” therefore marks her first movie role in nearly a decade — and notably, her first full-scale leading role in a theatrical film as an adult actress.
The casting news has sparked excitement among fans who have primarily followed her television career over the past several years.
Kim So Hyun has continued to stay active in dramas as well. Last year, she starred alongside Park Bo-gum in the JTBC series “Good Boy.”
She is also scheduled to appear in the upcoming ENA drama “Love Doctor” later this year and will additionally work with Song Kang in the drama “White Scandal.”
Meanwhile, “Modub” is currently progressing through casting and pre-production stages, with filming reportedly expected to begin in the second half of 2026.
