In recent days, Bai Lu’s name has repeatedly appeared on Weibo hot searches due to a series of issues ranging from dating rumors involving younger actor Zhou Yiran to heated debates surrounding her upcoming solo concert event.
The controversy reportedly intensified after online users claimed Zhou Yiran had been spotted visiting the apartment complex where Bai Lu lives. Earlier, the two stars had also been photographed dining together, quickly fueling relationship speculation across Chinese social media.

Although both agencies denied the dating rumors, Bai Lu continued facing criticism from multiple directions simultaneously.
According to Chinese media discussions, the actress had already become a controversial figure following her recent appearances on the variety show Keep Running. Some online commenters criticized her reactions and expressions on the program, while certain entertainment blogs harshly labeled her as having “the most awkward smile in the entertainment industry.”

However, the biggest debate currently revolves around Bai Lu’s upcoming anniversary concert.
The actress recently announced plans to hold a large-scale music concert at Suzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium on June 27 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her career. Instead of organizing a traditional fan meeting focused on games and interactions, Bai Lu reportedly chose a full concert format — a decision that immediately divided public opinion.

Many netizens argued that some young actors are becoming overly ambitious in attempting to build “all-round entertainer” images despite lacking sufficient professional musical ability.
Shortly after the concert announcement, old clips of Bai Lu singing live resurfaced online and quickly spread across social media platforms. Critics pointed to unstable vocals, weak breath control, and inconsistent live performances as reasons for questioning whether she is prepared to headline a full concert alone.
Some commenters harshly asked: “Does Bai Lu really have no shame?”

Others questioned whether popularity and fandom support alone should justify large-scale concert productions traditionally associated with professional singers.
Despite the backlash, supporters defended the actress by highlighting her long-standing passion for music. Before entering acting, Bai Lu reportedly once auditioned for SM Entertainment due to her love for K-pop, although she was unsuccessful at the time.
After later joining producer Yu Zheng’s company Huanyu Entertainment in 2016, she gradually rose to fame through successful costume dramas and became one of China’s most recognizable young actresses.
Over the years, Bai Lu has also participated in drama OST recordings and music festival performances, though critics argue that enjoying music and successfully carrying an entire live concert are two very different challenges.

The controversy has also reignited broader discussions about actors expanding into music careers. Stars such as Zhao Lusi and Dylan Wang previously faced similar criticism when pursuing music-related activities despite primarily being known for acting.
Still, despite the intense backlash, Bai Lu continues maintaining enormous online influence. Her massive fandom and ability to dominate social media conversations remain among the strongest in Chinese entertainment today — even when the discussions are deeply polarizing.
