go so young jang dong gun love story

On May 19, Go So Young uploaded a video to her personal YouTube channel titled: “Go So Young And Jang Dong Gun’s Secret Relationship Story Nobody Knew About In Their 20s”

During the video, the actress opened up about her married life and relationship history with one of Korea’s most famous actors. The couple officially married in 2010 and currently have one son and one daughter together.

While discussing her family life, Go So Young first shared stories about adapting to her husband’s family traditions. She explained that because Jang Dong Gun is the eldest grandson in the family, she became the “eldest daughter-in-law” after marriage.

She humorously recalled visiting family ancestral sites together and eating picnic-style meals prepared by relatives, revealing that her in-laws even bring rice cookers and instant coffee to family gatherings.

The actress also shared cultural differences she experienced after marriage, explaining that her husband’s family — originally from North Korea — had unique food customs that initially surprised her.

However, the biggest surprise came when staff members asked whether she had dated Jang Dong Gun when they were younger.

After reacting with visible embarrassment, Go So Young admitted: “How did you know?”

She then confessed that the two actors briefly dated secretly after filming the movie Love Wind Love Song together.

According to Go So Young, they had originally been close friends before developing romantic feelings. However, due to their extremely busy schedules at the time, they eventually decided to separate.

“We thought if things continued like that, we might even lose our friendship,” she explained.

Even after the breakup, the two reportedly remained on good terms and occasionally stayed in contact while continuing their separate dating lives.

Years later, fate unexpectedly brought them back together.

Go So Young revealed that both she and Jang Dong Gun happened to be emotionally exhausted during the same period in their 30s. While Jang Dong Gun was struggling with delays involving film projects, she was also feeling mentally drained and beginning to seriously think about marriage.

The actress described marriage as being deeply connected to “timing.”

The pair later reunited in Los Angeles after deciding to casually meet for dinner. Go So Young laughed while recalling that they accidentally arrived wearing identical T-shirts, creating an unexpectedly memorable moment.

Afterward, Jang Dong Gun remained in the United States for overseas filming while Go So Young returned to Korea, leading the two to begin a long-distance romance through phone calls.

She even revealed that their international phone bills reportedly reached millions of won.

Go So Young also candidly admitted that their relationship nearly failed a second time due to lifestyle differences. However, she said Jang Dong Gun eventually made efforts to change his habits and adapt to her lifestyle, convincing her that he was serious about building a future together.

The couple ultimately dated for two years before getting married when Go So Young was 37 years old.

Fans online have been praising the story as one of Korean entertainment’s most iconic “right person, right time” romances.
