The red carpet at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards on May 8 was filled with glamorous dresses from countless stars. Elegant silhouettes, daring colors, and dazzling jewelry showcased each celebrity’s unique style. However, a few fashion choices left viewers divided, with the styling of Hong Jin Kyung and Han Ye Ri receiving particularly mixed reactions.
Hong Jin Kyung appeared on the red carpet wearing a bold hot pink tube-top dress. Her tall frame and model-like presence instantly drew attention, but the issue lay in the styling choices. The highly saturated pink dress alone was already eye-catching, yet adding sunglasses and boots on top of it made the overall look feel overloaded. Rather than complementing each other, the glamorous dress and statement accessories seemed to compete for attention.

The comparisons became even more unavoidable because Suzy also wore a pink dress that day, successfully creating a bright and romantic mood. While Suzy interpreted pink with elegance and femininity, Hong Jin Kyung chose a much more excessive and unconventional styling direction.
Although the outfit matched her naturally playful and humorous personality, many felt it focused too much on being visually shocking rather than delivering a polished red carpet fashion moment.
Han Ye Ri’s white dress also left many disappointed. She chose a light chiffon dress, but the oversized floral decoration extending up to the neckline made the overall silhouette appear heavy and restrictive. The white-and-yellow flower embellishment drew excessive attention to one area instead of creating a romantic accent.

Some viewers even commented that the design resembled a fried egg because of the flower’s shape and placement.
The fit itself also appeared awkward for a red carpet gown. With both the upper and lower sections looking loose and oversized, the dress felt less effortless and more lacking in structure. The airy quality typically associated with chiffon fabric also failed to stand out properly.
Considering the design featured an open-back style, many believed the look could have appeared far more feminine and sophisticated if the neckline and upper silhouette had been styled more lightly and cleanly.
Individuality is important in red carpet fashion, but strong individuality alone does not always guarantee a successful look. In Hong Jin Kyung’s case, excessive styling points overshadowed the dress itself, while Han Ye Ri’s overwhelming decorations and awkward fit weakened the overall elegance of the outfit.
Although both stars clearly showcased their own unique identities, many viewers felt their fashion choices that day made it difficult to avoid being labeled among the “worst dressed” at this year’s Baeksang red carpet.
