On April 8, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the appeals of a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s, maintaining the original rulings. The woman was sentenced to four years in prison, while her accomplice received two years, both for charges including extortion and attempted extortion.

According to court findings, the woman—who had previously been in a relationship with Son Heung Min—claimed she was pregnant and sent an ultrasound image to support the allegation. She then threatened to expose the claim unless she was paid, ultimately receiving approximately 300 million KRW (around $220,000 USD).

She later conspired with the male accomplice to demand an additional 70 million KRW, threatening to reveal the story to the media and Son Heung Min’s family. This second attempt, however, did not succeed.

The court ruled that there were no grounds to overturn the initial verdict, stating that the lower court’s judgment was appropriate given the nature and consequences of the crime.

Judges emphasized the seriousness of the coordinated scheme and rejected arguments from the defendants seeking a reduced sentence.

The case drew widespread attention due to Son Heung Min’s global status as a football star. Many members of the public expressed support for the court’s decision, viewing the crime as a serious abuse of trust and reputation.

Son Heung Min’s side had previously acknowledged the past relationship but firmly denied the pregnancy claim, stating that the threats forced them to comply initially to avoid disruption.
