More celebrities are stepping forward to share their journeys with IVF (in vitro fertilization), revealing the harsh reality behind their desire to have children. As they endure various side effects and physical pain, their stories are resonating deeply with the public.

Recently, an increasing number of entertainers have been candidly documenting their IVF experiences through TV programs and YouTube channels.

First, comedian Kim Ji-min and Kim Jun-ho, who married in July last year, shared their story. Initially hoping for a natural pregnancy, the couple revealed that they eventually turned to IVF.

Explaining their decision on KBS 2TV’s Mr. House Husband 2, Kim Ji-min said, “We originally wanted to try natural pregnancy, but since we are both older, we had to consider IVF,” revealing the realistic circumstances behind their choice.

Later, on the April 5 broadcast of SBS’s My Little Old Boy, she updated viewers on her IVF progress.

Kim Ji-min candidly shared the physical changes she experienced after receiving ovulation-inducing hormone injections before egg retrieval. “My pants don’t fit anymore. This isn’t my usual body. None of my clothes fit. Even when stylists bring outfits, I have to leave buttons open or unzip the back just to film,” she said.

She had previously revealed on social media that she gained 3.5 kg due to the injections. After the procedure, she reassured fans, saying, “I’ve lost 4 kg now, don’t worry!” while showing a slimmer face again.

She added, “I wondered if it was okay for my body to change this much. Fortunately, I didn’t have facial swelling or skin troubles, but my legs would swell terribly by the end of the day especially around where my socks were.”

Meanwhile, Ryu Yi-seo, the wife of Shinhwa member Jun Jin, also shared her experience after undergoing IVF.

On her YouTube channel, she introduced more than 10 types of supplements in her kitchen, saying, “I’ve tried every supplement that’s said to be good,” showing her dedication to preparing for pregnancy.

She admitted, “After taking IVF injections, I think I gained weight because of the hormones. But it can’t be helped I’ll lose it later,” speaking calmly about the changes.

Ryu Yi-seo also explained why she decided to pursue having a child later in life. “When my husband suddenly got sick last year, I was terrified thinking, ‘What if I lose him?’ I thought that if I had a child who resembled him, I could endure it, so I seriously began planning for pregnancy,” she shared.

Actress Hwang Bo-ra also revealed her difficult experience, including a visit to the emergency room during IVF treatment, on her YouTube channel.

On the seventh day of hormone injections, she appeared with severe swelling. “My whole body is swollen. The doctor told me to stop the growth hormone injections,” she said. However, even after stopping, the swelling worsened.

When her condition didn’t improve, she went to the hospital, only to find that follicles were not developing despite the side effects. Despite medical advice, she decided to resume the injections.

She added, “Even my eyes are a mess. My whole body feels wrecked,” revealing that she had suffered a tear in her right cornea and had to wear an eye patch, drawing sympathy from viewers.

Singer Ailee also shared her IVF preparation process on her YouTube channel.

Talking about the daily injections, she said her husband Choi Si-hoon helps administer them. “When I wake up in the morning, it feels like a horror movie. He goes, ‘Time for your shot~,’” she said, describing the emotional stress.

She also described the physical discomfort after egg retrieval: “My stomach is constantly bloated and filled with gas. I haven’t been able to go to the bathroom since before the procedure. It’s really painful,” adding that medication side effects caused severe constipation.

IVF is a process that brings both physical changes and emotional burdens. Yet despite the hardships, these celebrities continue their journey for one clear reason their deep desire to have a child.

Though they lead busy lives in the spotlight, their hopes for family reveal a side that is no different from any other couple, earning empathy and support from the public.
