The second season of the live-action One Piece has received widespread praise since its release on Netflix. The new season not only introduces popular characters like Tony Tony Chopper, but also recreates many iconic moments from the original story, delighting longtime fans of the franchise.
One of the most talked-about cast members is Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, the Straw Hat Pirates’ navigator. Behind the scenes, Rudd recently went viral online after reports revealed that she insisted on filming in Nami’s signature mini skirt—even during freezing winter conditions.
According to reports from international media, the show’s costume designer Kerry Anne Barnard shared details about the challenging filming process. During the production of Season 2, Episode 2, scenes were shot in extremely cold weather. To help Rudd stay warm, the costume team adjusted the character’s outfit by changing Nami’s original sleeveless design from the manga into a long-sleeve top.
However, despite the freezing conditions, Rudd insisted on keeping Nami’s iconic mini skirt. Even though the scene involved action sequences and physically demanding choreography, the actress asked the costume team not to modify that part of the outfit. According to Barnard, Rudd explained that she wanted to stay as faithful to the original character design as possible.
Rudd reportedly told the crew that the decision was made “for the fans,” emphasizing her desire to respect the original work created by Eiichiro Oda. Her dedication impressed many members of the production team, who praised her commitment to authenticity.

In the original One Piece, Nami is known for her striking appearance and bold fashion choices, often appearing in outfits that highlight her confident personality. The live-action adaptation stays true to this image, and Season 2 reportedly includes a large-scale beach scene where Rudd appears in a bikini, which has already become a hot topic among fans.
Rudd’s enthusiasm for the project also comes from her personal connection to the series. She has long been a devoted fan of One Piece and was personally approved for the role by creator Eiichiro Oda.
Thanks to her performance and dedication, Rudd’s popularity continues to grow rapidly. Her social media following has surged, with millions of fans now keeping up with her updates as the live-action One Piece series gains global attention.
