Former Produce 101 Season 2 contestant Sung Hyun Woo has revealed a shocking past incident in which he was assaulted while attempting to stop an acquaintance from drunk driving.
In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel titled “Storytime: I Got Assaulted While Stopping Drunk Driving,” Sung Hyun Woo recounted the traumatic experience that occurred when he was 20 years old.
At the time, he had just left his trainee agency and was preparing to enter university while looking to restart his idol training career. He met up with a close older acquaintance whom he considered like family, and the two ended up drinking heavily while sharing personal concerns late into the night.
When they decided to head home at dawn, the acquaintance insisted on driving himself despite being heavily intoxicated. Sung Hyun Woo said he felt uneasy and accompanied him to the car to make sure he called a designated driver instead.

“I told him I would wait until the driver arrived before leaving,” he recalled. After some back-and-forth, the acquaintance eventually called for a substitute driver.
However, while waiting, the situation suddenly escalated.
“We were talking and laughing, and out of nowhere he punched me straight in the face,” Sung Hyun Woo said. “He hit my nose and then struck my ear. It was so sudden. When I lowered my head, blood was dripping down.”
He admitted that the pain was overwhelming, but what hurt even more was the sense of betrayal. “I stopped him because I was afraid something terrible would happen if he drove drunk. And then he hit me.”
Police were called to the scene. Officers advised him to go to the hospital immediately due to the heavy bleeding, but he initially insisted on filing a formal statement at the police station first. After medical examination, doctors reportedly told him he needed to be hospitalized for over a week.

Following the incident, the acquaintance sent him a heartfelt apology message and later met with him in person, even apologizing in front of Sung’s family. At the time, Sung Hyun Woo chose to forgive him.
“He promised to take care of my family like his own and said he would frequently visit my parents,” Sung shared. “Back then, I was more innocent. If it happened now, I wouldn’t forgive him so easily.”
Although the acquaintance maintained contact for a while afterward, communication eventually faded completely.
Sung Hyun Woo first gained public recognition through Mnet’s Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017. He later debuted in 2019 as A.M under the boy group LIMITLESS.
His candid confession has drawn sympathy from fans, many praising him for taking a stand against drunk driving despite the painful consequences.
