Biography

Gaeul is a South Korean singer, rapper, songwriter, and dancer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group IVE, formed by Starship Entertainment. Since her debut, she has contributed to the group’s musical output not only as a performer but also as a lyricist and occasional choreographic contributor.

Early Life and Education

Gaeul was born Kim Ga-eul on September 24, 2002, in Bupyeong-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, South Korea. She grew up in Incheon and has an older brother. From a young age, she showed strong interest in dance and performance, joining dance clubs and competing in youth competitions. In April 2017, while participating in a local youth dance competition, she was scouted by Starship Entertainment and later became a trainee.

She attended local schools in Incheon, including Incheon Buwon Elementary School, Bupyeong Seo Girls’ Middle School, and Bupyeong Girls’ High School before focusing on her entertainment career.

Career

Debut with IVE (2021–present)

In early November 2021, Gaeul was announced as the second revealed member of the new girl group IVE under Starship Entertainment. The group officially debuted on December 1, 2021, with the single album Eleven.

Since debut, IVE has achieved significant commercial success with multiple hit singles and albums. Gaeul serves as main dancer, lead rapper, and sub-vocalist within the group, contributing to both performance and creative aspects of their music.

Songwriting and Variety Work

In April 2022, Gaeul received her first songwriting credit for writing the rap lyrics of the track “Royal” from IVE’s Love Dive single album. She continued to contribute lyrically on subsequent releases, including tracks on IVE’s first full album I’ve Ive in 2023 and beyond.

In addition to her music activities, Gaeul has appeared on variety and broadcast programs, including King of Masked Singer (MBC) and I Can See Your Voice 10 (Mnet). In 2025, she served as a special MC on Show! Music Core, showcasing her versatility beyond singing and dancing.
