On January 28, the YouTube channel for KBS’s “Celeb Secret” released a special video titled “End of the Century Love: What Took Their Love Away? The Cinematic Story of Koo Jun Yup and Barbie Hsu.” The segment chronicled the beautiful yet sorrowful journey of the couple.
Koo and Barbie initially dated back in 1998 but went their separate ways. Over two decades later, in 2022, they reunited and got married rekindling their love after a phone call Koo made with great courage, 23 years after their breakup.

Tragically, their reunion was short-lived. Barbie Hsu passed away suddenly in February 2025 during a trip to Japan due to acute pneumonia.
The video revealed the inscription on her tombstone: “Remember, Together, Forever. Love you forever – Jun Jun.” This is the same phrase the couple famously tattooed on their bodies after announcing their marriage—Koo Jun Yup on his neck, Barbie Hsu on her collarbone. It’s said to have been inspired by lyrics from a song the couple cherished deeply. Koo Jun Yup now visits and tends Barbie Hsu’s grave alone. The image of him standing solemnly at her resting place brought overwhelming emotion to those watching.
Celebrities such as Oh My Girl’s Hyojung, Jang Do Yeon, and Lee Chan Won, who participated in the broadcast, couldn’t hold back their tears while listening to the moving tale.

The full story of Koo Jun Yup and Barbie Hsu’s extraordinary and emotional romance will air on February 3 at 8:30 PM KST on KBS 2TV’s “Celeb Secret.”
Following Barbie’s unexpected passing, Koo Jun Yup reportedly lost over 14kg, with recent appearances showing a visibly thinner and grief-stricken figure further underscoring the profound loss he continues to endure.
