Kim Seon-ho shared the story during an interview held on January 22 in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, as part of promotional activities for the Netflix series Can This Love Be Translated?, written by Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran and directed by Yoo Young-eun.
Speaking about his chemistry with Go Youn-jung, Kim Seon-ho recalled how their relationship naturally evolved over the course of overseas filming.
“We were awkward with each other in Japan, but in Canada, I received a lot of help from her and we became closer,” he said. “I was exhausted and worn out, and she came up to me asking, ‘Do you want some jelly?’ I think I just got swept along by that.”
He added that by the time filming moved to Italy, their bond had grown strong enough for playful banter. “We became close enough to joke around like, ‘Hey, Ju Ho-jin, Cha Mu-hee,’” he shared. When asked directly whether he had ever felt genuinely fluttered while acting opposite Go Youn-jung, Kim Seon-ho answered with a smile, “Yes.”
He went on to praise her personality and charm, saying, “I think all the staff would agree, she’s extremely lovable. I joke that we tease each other, but even that side of her is cute and lovely.” Kim Seon-ho also spoke about being influenced by Go Youn-jung’s younger, Gen Z sensibility. “It kind of seeps into you,” he said. “At some point, I even started looking up memes first. Once I began enjoying that, our conversations became much more natural.”
When asked about his thoughts on a woman like Cha Mu-hee, the character Go Youn-jung plays, Kim Seon-ho reflected from his character’s perspective.
“Cha Mu-hee was portrayed as very lovable,” he explained. “When Dorami appeared, I thought it was really hip and refreshing. From Ju Ho-jin’s point of view, it must have felt relieving. After dealing with someone who avoids direct communication, meeting Dorami probably made him think, ‘Someone needs to be the interpreter here.’”
He concluded by adding that beneath Cha Mu-hee’s surface lies emotional depth. “She has pain and a story of her own, so I thought about how to embrace that,” Kim Seon-ho said. “Rather than wondering whether I could accept it, Ju Ho-jin tried to empathize with her, because he also carries his own wounds when it comes to love.”
