Taiwanese star Greg Hsu (Xu Guanghan) has once again set social media abuzz after revealing photos of himself sporting a buzz cut from his military service days. The newly shared images instantly sparked heated discussion online, with fans declaring both heartbreak and admiration at the same time.

On January 10, the 35-year-old actor was invited to attend the 40th Golden Disc Awards in South Korea, where he appeared alongside major stars such as Jolin Tsai, Byeon Woo-seok, Song Joong-ki, and Ahn Hyo-seop as an award presenter. Just one day prior, however, Greg surprised fans by posting throwback photos from when he first enlisted, offering a glimpse into a rarely seen chapter of his life.

In the photos, Greg Hsu is seen wearing a haircut cape as his hair is shaved down, revealing a clean buzz cut. Despite the drastic hairstyle change, his visuals remain striking. His expression carries a hint of shyness, adding to his charm, while close friend and fellow actor Chang Kuang-chen is spotted by his side, witnessing the moment.

The photos were taken on August 6, 2024, shortly before Greg officially completed his service, marking the symbolic head-shaving ritual ahead of discharge.

Fans quickly flooded social media with reactions, many joking that the “rookie soldier vibe” was overwhelming but admitting that his handsomeness remained untouched.

Greg Hsu previously completed one year of alternative military service, serving as part of the Ministry of the Interior’s Public Welfare Ambassador Group in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou. During his service, he frequently participated in charity performances at nursing homes and welfare institutions, unexpectedly showcasing his vocal talent and warm personality.

Despite being enlisted, his popularity never waned. Greg’s sincere attitude and continued public engagement allowed him to maintain strong visibility throughout his service period.

After completing his service, Greg Hsu steadily expanded his career overseas. Following his massive success with the hit Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day , he began actively pursuing opportunities in the Korean entertainment industry.

In 2024, he made his Korean drama debut in No Way Out: The Roulette , earning praise for both his acting skills and screen presence. The project significantly boosted his recognition among Korean audiences and solidified his cross-border appeal.

When asked about his role as a presenter at the Golden Disc Awards, Greg previously shared that he was approaching the opportunity with a relaxed mindset. While he had no prior knowledge of whom he would be presenting with, he expressed genuine happiness at being invited.
