aespa attended the 2025 Melon Music Awards (MMA) red carpet as a three-member unit, after Ningning was forced to sit out the event due to a sudden decline in her health condition.
The 17th Melon Music Awards took place on December 20 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. Ahead of the main ceremony, aespa appeared on the red carpet with Karina, Winter, and Giselle, while Ningning’s absence immediately drew attention from fans and media.
Shortly after the red carpet event, SM Entertainment released an official statement explaining Ningning’s absence.
“Ningning was unable to attend the red carpet today due to cold symptoms and a decrease in her physical condition,” the agency stated.
SM emphasized that the decision was made out of concern for the artist’s health, clarifying that Ningning required rest and careful condition management before appearing in public.
Despite missing the red carpet, SM Entertainment reassured fans that Ningning will still participate in the main MMA stage and selected official events later that evening.
“Due to the artist’s strong will to perform, Ningning will focus on restoring her condition and will attend the main stage as planned,” the agency explained.
The company added that the decision balanced artist well-being and performance quality, asking fans for understanding and support.
The announcement eased concerns among fans, many of whom had expressed worry online after noticing Ningning’s absence from the red carpet lineup.
While attention largely centered on Ningning’s health, Winter also became a major talking point after her red carpet appearance. Wearing a black mini dress with a clean, shoulder-accentuating silhouette, Winter’s visuals quickly trended across online communities and social media platforms.
Although some speculative discussions resurfaced online following her appearance, no official statements were made by Winter or SM Entertainment regarding such rumors.
aespa is set to deliver a special rearranged performance prepared exclusively for MMA 2025, including a long-awaited stage of “Drift.” Karina previously hinted that fans can expect a uniform-inspired concept, raising anticipation for a powerful and polished performance.
