On December 19, tvN aired the first episode of Reply 1988 10th Anniversary, featuring the beloved Ssangmun-dong families reuniting for a one-night, two-day trip to Gangwon Province. The special revisited the drama’s enduring warmth and humor, beginning with the cast gathering separately before heading into their long-awaited reunion.
Among the most anticipated reunions was Deok-sun’s family, portrayed by Sung Dong-il, Lee Il-hwa, Ryu Hye-young, Hyeri, and Choi Sung-won. Their meeting immediately set the tone for nostalgic laughter.

As Hyeri appeared and politely greeted him, Sung Dong-il wasted no time delivering a signature blunt remark, saying, “You’re being fake,” drawing instant laughter from viewers. When Hyeri followed up with a cheerful “Happy New Year,” Sung Dong-il quickly shot back, “You’re still living so thoughtlessly and absent-mindedly,” reminding everyone that filming actually took place during Chuseok, not the New Year.
His sharp humor didn’t stop there. Once all family members had gathered, Sung Dong-il added, “None of you ever call—sit down already,” once again reviving the familiar scolding father persona fans loved in the original series.

Despite their busy schedules, the cast made a point to reunite, even recreating their Reply 1988 outfits from the drama. The nostalgic styling and effortless banter made it feel as if time had stood still, transporting viewers straight back to Ssangmun-dong.
The episode reaffirmed why Reply 1988 remains one of Korea’s most cherished dramas—its heartfelt relationships, lived-in humor, and unforgettable family dynamics continuing to resonate ten years later.
