G-DRAGON has publicly apologized to fans after facing renewed debate over his live singing ability, addressing the controversy directly during his ongoing “Übermensch” concert series in Seoul.

The BIGBANG leader is currently wrapping up multiple sold-out shows at Gocheok Sky Dome. During the December 12 performance, G-DRAGON spoke candidly to the audience, marking the first time he personally addressed the recent criticism surrounding his live vocals.

“Were there any moments today that felt… noisy to you?” he asked fans from the stage. “If so, I’m sorry, and I hope you’ll understand. I’m really trying my best. Please don’t be disappointed. It’s been 19 years, and there’s still controversy even I find that surprising.”

When a fan shouted, “You’re perfect!”, G-DRAGON immediately responded with honesty.

“No, I’m not perfect,” he said. “There are still stages that I look back on and feel unsatisfied with.”

He went on to explain that each performance depends heavily on his physical condition and emotional state. “I can’t say today was perfect, but I truly did my best. It also depends on how I’m feeling that day. Today was okay though I’ll give myself a ‘like.’”

The controversy began after G-DRAGON’s performance at the 2025 MAMA Awards, held on November 29 in Hong Kong. While some praised his stage presence, others criticized his vocal stability, claiming certain high notes were not fully delivered and suggesting he relied heavily on pre-recorded backing tracks.

Some viewers also pointed out moments where G-DRAGON appeared to perform choreography while holding the microphone without singing, leading to claims that the stage felt incomplete.

However, many fans rushed to his defense, sharing audience-recorded clips from inside the venue. They argued that his live vocals were audible and that broadcast audio mixing issues likely contributed to the negative perception.

Adding to the discussion, G-DRAGON later drew attention by leaving a “dislike” emoji on MAMA’s official Instagram video of his own performance. Many interpreted the gesture as self-deprecating humor and an acknowledgment that he himself was not fully satisfied with the stage.

Rather than avoiding the issue, G-DRAGON chose to confront public opinion head-on. Nearly two decades into his career, he continues to show the mindset of an artist willing to acknowledge imperfections, accept criticism, and keep evolving.
