In May 2025, a woman named Jayme Lee filed a lawsuit claiming she was the biological mother of Miley Cyrus, alleging she gave birth to the singer at just 12 years old. Jayme Lee stated that she signed a private adoption agreement with Miley’s legal parents, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, but claimed she suffered severe emotional distress after Billy Ray accused her of misrepresenting the circumstances.

According to Jayme Lee, the adoption agreement allowed her to name Miley and serve as her nanny and piano teacher. She accused Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus of breaching the contract, committing fraud, causing intentional emotional distress, and unlawfully interfering with her parental rights. Jayme Lee claimed the couple cut off all contact and threatened to involve law enforcement immediately after Miley’s birth. She requested a supervised DNA test and reconsideration of the adoption’s legality, but her request was rejected by the judge in October 2025.

On November 20, Billy Ray Cyrus filed a motion to dismiss all claims made by Jayme Lee, asserting that the lawsuit was intended to harass him and his family. He submitted a formal response on December 1, denying all allegations and stating that he had only recently become aware of the case. Billy Ray emphasized that Jayme Lee’s claims about Miley’s parentage were false and nonsensical.
On December 5, the court officially dismissed the case, confirming there is no basis for claims that Miley Cyrus was born to a 12-year-old mother or is not the biological daughter of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus.

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus share three children Miley, Braison, and Noah and Billy Ray legally adopted Tish’s two children from a previous relationship, Brandi and Trace. The Cyrus family has long been a well-known Hollywood household. Following Billy Ray and Tish’s divorce, the children reportedly sided with different parents; Miley has remained closer to her mother but recently shared congratulations for her engagement to musician Maxx Morando on Instagram.
