On December 5, Dispatch reported that Choi Jin-woong, during his high school years, allegedly participated in car theft, drove without a license, and was involved in an attempted sexual assault, leading to charges under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. According to the report, Cho Jin-woong was subsequently sent to a juvenile detention center.

Additional claims resurfaced regarding incidents during Choi Jin-woong’s early acting years, including an alleged assault on a theatre troupe colleague which reportedly resulted in a fine and a separate allegation of drunk driving that led to the cancellation of his license. These details, however, have yet to be verified with official documentation.

In response to the rapidly spreading allegations, Cho Jin-woong’s agency Saram Entertainment stated: “We are currently checking the facts related to the reports. We will release an official position once the details are confirmed.”

Choi Jin-woong’s controversy has sparked widespread concern about the future of tvN’s Signal 2, the sequel to the 2016 hit series Signal, which starred Kim Hye-soo, Lee Je-hoon, and Cho Jin-woong himself.

The sequel, produced as part of tvN’s 20th-anniversary special lineup, had completed filming earlier this year from February to August and was scheduled for release in June 2026. The reunion of the original cast, along with the addition of actor Ahn Jae-hong, had generated massive anticipation among fans.

However, following the allegations, viewers expressed shock and concern online:

  • I was only waiting for Signal 2…
  • Please clarify the truth as soon as possible.
  • Let’s wait for the official statement before making judgments.

Choi Jin-woong is also appearing as the presenter for SBS’s special documentary series “War Against the Gangs”, which aired its first episode on November 30. With his narration featured in upcoming episodes, many are questioning whether SBS will broadcast them as originally recorded.

Industry officials are reportedly waiting for Choi Jin-woong’s official position before making decisions related to his ongoing appearances.

As the situation continues to unfold, both the entertainment industry and viewers await a clear statement confirming or denying the allegations.
