Former WINNER member Nam Tae-hyun is once again facing legal trouble, this time for driving under the influence during his probation period. According to the legal community on December 1, Seoul Western District Court’s 11th Criminal Division will hold Nam’s first trial on December 11 for violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI).
The incident occurred around 4:10 a.m. on April 27 near Dongjak Bridge, heading toward Ilsan via Gangbyeonbuk-ro. Nam reportedly attempted to overtake a vehicle but crashed into the central guardrail. Although there were no injuries, police confirmed his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit for license cancellation (0.08% or higher). He was also cited for speeding.

Nam was not detained but was referred to prosecution. In July, the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office officially indicted him.
What makes this case more serious is that Nam is currently serving a two-year probation sentence after being convicted in January 2023 for drug-related offenses. His involvement in this DUI incident during his probation could significantly affect the court’s final judgment.
This is not Nam’s first DUI-related offense. In March 2023, during a separate drug investigation, he was fined ₩600,000 for another DUI accident. The repeated offenses, particularly during his probation, have sparked concern and criticism from both the media and the public.

Nam Tae-hyun debuted in 2014 as a member of WINNER but left the group in 2016. Since then, he has faced multiple controversies, including drug use and allegations of dating violence, leading many to question his rehabilitation efforts.
As the December 11 trial approaches, public attention is turning once again to whether the court will enforce stricter consequences this time. The outcome could set a precedent for how repeat offenders are treated, especially those violating probation terms.
