Reply 1988 fans, get ready to be hit with a wave of nostalgia the original Ssangmun-dong family is back together for a special event celebrating the drama’s 10th anniversary. Titled “Reply 1988 10th Anniversary,” the variety show will premiere on tvN on December 19 at 8:40 PM (KST).
The special, which features a 1-night, 2-day MT (Membership Training) trip, reunites the full ensemble cast of the hit drama that aired from 2015 to 2016. Appearing in the show are key cast members such as Park Bo-gum, Hyeri, Ryu Jun-yeol, Go Kyung-pyo, Lee Dong-hwi, Ahn Jae-hong, Sung Dong-il, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sun-young, and many more who helped make Reply 1988 a cultural phenomenon.
Newly released promo images from the MT show the actors reuniting in full character spirit, with Hyeri embodying Deok-sun’s cheerful charm, Park Bo-gum returning as the introverted genius Taek, and Ra Mi-ran bringing back her iconic “Cheetah” persona complete with her unmistakable energy and fashion.
A banner reading “We hear you. We respond. Longing answers back,” hangs at the event site, encapsulating the deep emotional connection viewers have maintained with the show over the past decade. The accompanying 15-second teaser video shows the cast posing for group photos while joking and laughing, capturing the warmth of their reunion. Ra Mi-ran’s playful remark, “It’s so freaking hard to get everyone together,” drew laughter, echoing fans’ joy at seeing the entire cast in one place again.
Originally broadcast between November 2015 and January 2016, Reply 1988 depicted the daily lives of five families living in the same alley in 1988 Seoul. With direction by Shin Won-ho and writing by Lee Woo-jung, the drama struck a chord with viewers, ultimately achieving a record 18.8% average rating nationwide (Nielsen Korea, paid platforms), becoming one of the highest-rated cable dramas in Korean history.
Even after the show ended, the cast maintained a close bond through smaller gatherings, which made this full reunion all the more special. The upcoming special will not only commemorate Reply 1988‘s 10-year milestone but also serve as part of tvN’s 20th anniversary celebration.
