The historical romance drama Moon River starring Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong is proving to be a surprise international hit.

Both lead actors had previously faced low domestic ratings Kang with tvN’s The Potato Lab and Kim with ENA’s Brewing Love, both dipping into the 1% viewership range. However, their latest MBC series is receiving glowing praise, especially overseas.

According to the week 2 chart (Nov 10–16) released by Asia’s largest regional OTT platform Viu, Moon River ranked No. 1 in both Indonesia and Thailand. It also secured No. 3 in the Philippines and Malaysia, and No. 5 in Singapore and Hong Kong, placing it in the top 5 across six Asian countries within just two weeks of release.

Moon River tells the gripping tale of Crown Prince Lee Kang (Kang Tae-oh) and peddler Park Dal-yi (Kim Se-jeong), whose lives are upended when their bodies are mysteriously switched overnight. As they navigate palace intrigue and forbidden romance, the drama combines classic K-historical aesthetics with the lively pace of a romantic comedy, captivating international audiences.
