Tzuyu has finally come home. For the first time in 10 years, TWICE brought their world tour to Kaohsiung, Taiwan (China) Tzuyu’s hometown marking a triumphant return for the idol after being effectively banned in the Chinese-speaking market since 2016.

The tour stop, part of TWICE‘s This Is For World Tour, is more than a concert it’s a historic moment and a powerful homecoming for Tzuyu. In 2016, at just 16 years old, she was embroiled in a geopolitical controversy that led to public backlash, contract cancellations, and nearly ended her career. Forced to apologize on camera, she was unofficially blacklisted across the region.
Yet on November 21, Tzuyu strode confidently through Kaohsiung International Airport to a hero’s welcome. Thousands of fans packed the terminal, screaming her name, with media outlets broadcasting her arrival live. The once-banned star was finally being embraced by her homeland.
Public spaces across the city celebrated TWICE’s visit, with banners, billboards, and LED campaigns welcoming the group. For many, this wasn’t just a concert it was a long-overdue recognition of Taiwan’s most successful K-pop idol.

The two sold-out shows at Kaohsiung National Stadium drew an estimated 90,000 to 100,000 attendees, setting a new record. TWICE became the first K-pop act to completely sell out the stadium, with fans filling every seat in the 360-degree arena. Though Chaeyoung was absent due to health issues, the remaining members delivered a career-spanning setlist full of emotional highs and celebratory energy.

Despite K-pop’s global wave ebbing slightly from its 2016-2019 peak, Tzuyu’s return shows her enduring power and emotional connection with fans. She remains a cultural icon in Taiwan, a symbol of perseverance, and the first Taiwanese idol to make history in Korea’s competitive entertainment scene.
As the crowd sang along to the group’s biggest hits and chanted Tzuyu’s name, it was clear: after 10 years, Taiwan was ready to welcome their “precious gem” back home.
