Appearing on the November 19 episode of KBS CoolFM’s “Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show,” Kang Seung Yoon candidly shared stories from his time in the military. As he returned with a solo album after 4 years and 7 months, host Park Myung Soo delved into his notable military achievements.
Kang Seung Yoon was honorably discharged in February this year after serving in the army. His record includes receiving honors as an outstanding trainee, earning an early promotion to corporal, being selected as a “special forces warrior,” and achieving a perfect shooting record. He also served in multiple roles including barber, counselor, and squad leader.
“I was proud of my military service,” Kang said. “I even earned early promotion to sergeant. I always passed the promotion exams with top scores and earned the special forces warrior badge. I aimed to become an assistant instructor from the beginning and had excellent scores in all training subjects.”

He even considered staying in the military longer, saying, “I received multiple offers from officers suggesting I go career military. It felt like something I was good at.”
When asked if BTS’s Jin was stationed at the same base, Kang confirmed the surprising story.
“He was actually my assistant instructor,” Kang shared. “He was so admirable and his presence felt enormous.”
Even more surprising, the two had no prior personal connection. Kang revealed, “We didn’t know each other at all before. But before I enlisted, Jin somehow found out I was going to that training center and reached out to me first.”

According to Kang, Jin had suggested, “Would you like to become an assistant instructor too?” Although Kang described his military life as somewhat unlucky, he expressed gratitude for Jin’s support.
“In the military, he was like a god,” Kang said. “That god-like Jin gave me Choco Pies and looked after me. I was so thankful.”
As he makes his comeback after two years, Kang Seung Yoon also expressed how much he missed the stage and his fans.

Asked how badly he wanted to return, he confessed, “I missed them so much. I even included a song I wrote in the army in my new album.”
“I cried, I lost sleep,” he added. “At lights-out, when I was supposed to be asleep, I kept thinking about music and my fans.”
Kang Seung Yoon’s touching story with Jin has now become a symbol of camaraderie and support among idols serving in the military, reminding fans that even brief moments of kindness can leave a lasting impact.
