According to Taiwanese media outlet Sanli News on November 13 (local time), Chinese social media has recently been flooded with claims that Kris Wu has died in prison under suspicious circumstances. One man, who identified himself as an inmate incarcerated alongside Kris, fueled the speculation by stating, “It’s true that he died. A few days ago, prison guards were whispering about it—Kris Wu suddenly passed away. Rumor has it that he was gang-raped by local gang members, and when he failed to satisfy them, they killed him.”
Another individual claimed that Kris had died after a “prolonged hunger strike.”
Previously, on the morning of November 9, Chinese social media erupted with shocking rumors that former EXO member Kris Wu had died in prison.
Several media outlets including Sinchew, China Times, Zaobao, and ATVN reported on the trending speculation. The rumors suggest that Kris Wu passed away in custody after nearly four years behind bars. Allegedly, the singer had been on a prolonged hunger strike, leading to deteriorating health and ultimately, his death. These claims have sparked widespread discussion online, with netizens divided over the truth behind them.

However, as of now, the prison authorities where Kris Wu is reportedly being held have not issued any official statements. Some voices online argue that the rumors are baseless, urging the public not to spread unverified information. Earlier this year, conflicting reports even claimed that Wu was eating well and had gained weight during his incarceration.
Kris Wu, also known as Wu Yifan, was sentenced in 2022 to 13 years in prison for rape and group lewdness. His legal troubles began in 2021 when influencer Du Meizhu accused him of sexual assault. Investigations revealed that as early as July 1, 2018, Wu and several men hosted drinking parties with women, during which they engaged in non-consensual acts while the women were intoxicated.
Between November and December 2020, Kris Wu allegedly used his fame to organize multiple group sex parties at his private residence. He was found guilty of raping three women, all of whom were reportedly too drunk to resist.

Following his conviction, Kris Wu was also ordered to be deported from China after completing his sentence. Since his arrest, little information has been made public about his condition or location. In April of this year, a self-identified Beijing criminal lawyer claimed that Wu had been transferred to Chaoyang Detention Center in Beijing and was required to wear a hood during lawyer visits.
At present, all information surrounding Kris Wu’s rumored death remains speculative. The lack of an official update continues to fuel curiosity and controversy within Chinese online communities.
