OH MY GIRL’s Mimi has shared an emotional story from her early days in the K-pop industry.

Appearing on TV Chosun’s Baekban Journey with Heo Young-man, the idol opened up about being excluded from a group commercial because she didn’t fit the “innocent” concept her members embodied.

“At that time, I didn’t have any individual schedules at all — I was like a guard dog staying at home,” Mimi confessed. “One day, all the members went to film a bright, refreshing cosmetics commercial. Everyone looked like fairies, but I wasn’t that type. My skin was darker, and I had a more boyish style. They said I didn’t match the concept, so I was left alone in the waiting room.”

Despite practicing facial expressions in front of the mirror and trying to look more “pure,” Mimi admitted nothing seemed to work. “I felt so empty and left out. It was a hard time.”

Today, Mimi is celebrated for her humor and versatility, having made a name for herself on popular shows like Earth Arcade, Sixth Sense, Heart Pairing, The Great Guide, and Our Ballad.

Her unique charm and candid personality helped her win the Blue Dragon Series Award for Best Female Variety Rookie, solidifying her position as one of the hottest names in Korean variety entertainment.

“I learned that those who endure will survive. Life is about holding on,” she said with a smile, showcasing her positive outlook.

Mimi revealed that she’s now busier than ever, juggling multiple hobbies and creative pursuits. “I’m grateful to be working so much now. I edit my own videos, and I’m learning ballet and boxing. I even do DJing as a hobby.”

When asked why she hasn’t been in a relationship yet, the 30-year-old star admitted, “No one really flirts with me or shows interest. But I like someone like Yang Gwan-sik from When Life Gives You Tangerine. Just imagining it makes me happy.”

Mimi’s story has resonated deeply with fans, serving as a reminder that even idols who seem confident on screen have faced rejection and insecurity behind the scenes.

From being “the member left behind” to becoming a variety show darling, OH MY GIRL’s Mimi has proven that resilience, talent, and authenticity can turn pain into purpose.
