The unexpected cancellation of the 2025 Wonju K-POP Festival has led to the public release of detailed artist fees, giving fans a rare glimpse into how much K-pop idols are paid for festival appearances.
Originally scheduled to be a high-profile event, the festival was to include performances by FIFTY FIFTY, Highlight, fromis 9, KISS OF LIFE, and more. However, on October 30, organizers officially announced the event’s cancellation, citing financial strain and organizational challenges as key reasons.
The Korean Cultural Arts Education Promotion Association, which was behind the festival, issued a formal apology to fans and ticket holders. In a statement, Director Kang Jin Young explained the prolonged delay in refunds and shared that ongoing negotiations with artist agencies had forced them to disclose the performance fees paid in advance.
“We are deeply sorry for the delay in processing cancellations and refunds. Discussions are ongoing with each agency to ensure that refunds are completed for both performance fees and ticket sales,” said the director. “Due to the large amounts already paid out, artist agencies are coordinating with labels to handle refunds.”

The figures caught many fans off guard, with some surprised at the scale of the payments. However, insiders pointed out that these fees typically cover not just the performance itself, but also include costs such as travel, accommodation, hair and makeup, stylists, stage outfits, and accompanying staff. Given these expenses, the totals may not be as inflated as they initially appear.
