Chinese superstar Zhang Ziyi has officially regained custody of her daughter, Tsing Tsing, two years after her divorce from rock singer Wang Feng, according to a recent announcement by the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing.

Effective May 2025, the court decision transferred legal custody of the daughter to Zhang Ziyi, while Wang Feng is granted visitation rights twice a month—provided he gives 72-hour advance notice.

The news, quietly disclosed over the weekend, has sparked widespread media attention in China—not only due to the couple’s celebrity status but also because of Zhang Ziyi’s emotional journey as a mother in the public eye.

Zhang married Wang Feng in 2015, and the couple welcomed daughter Tsing Tsing the same year, followed by a son in 2020. After their split in October 2023, Zhang retained custody of their son, while their daughter remained with Wang Feng.

The marriage had long been controversial due to disparities in fame and background. Zhang Ziyi, an internationally acclaimed actress known for films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha, was seen as out of Wang Feng’s league by some netizens. He had three past marriages and a child from a previous relationship.

Despite warnings from friends and family, Zhang chose to marry him, reportedly touched by his gestures like buying her a house and proposing with a diamond ring. Having grown up in a family lacking emotional warmth, she longed for love and care.

After marriage, Zhang significantly stepped back from the spotlight to focus on family. Industry insiders claimed she turned down major roles to “stay home and read bedtime stories.” Some critics said she had “fallen from her peak,” but Zhang herself once stated, “Awards are fleeting, family is for a lifetime.”

However, after the divorce, she began reclaiming her career—appearing at film festivals like Cannes and Venice, promoting her film Evening Blossom, and serving as a reality show judge.

In contrast, Wang Feng became publicly affectionate with new girlfriend Shen Linbei, raising concerns about the emotional environment surrounding Tsing Tsing. Zhang reportedly believed her daughter, now at a formative age, needed a mother’s care and presence more than ever.

In 2025, Zhang Ziyi raised ¥30 million (approx. $4.1 million) to produce a film titled Daughter and I, inspired by her real-life experiences as a single mom. In one key scene, the mother and daughter attend a concert, exchange gifts with an idol, and receive a handwritten note—a moment lifted directly from a real-life trip Zhang took with Tsing Tsing to see K-pop group I-DLE in Kobe, Japan.

There, Zhang even escorted her daughter backstage to meet and gift a present to idol Song Yuqi, fulfilling her daughter’s dream.

Today, Zhang Ziyi is not just a global film icon, but also a mother deeply committed to her children’s emotional well-being. After years of personal sacrifice, her custody win marks not just a legal victory—but a deeply personal one.
