Bangkok’s iconic CentralWorld shopping complex has just given Asia one of its most hilarious — and creative — holiday moments of the year: a “haunted Christmas tree” that looks like a giant, smiling ghost.
Since October 22, the mall’s main plaza has been transformed into a glowing Halloween wonderland under the theme “Spooky Boo”, marking the start of Thailand’s festive season with a fun twist.
Towering at over 40 meters, the installation is wrapped in a massive white cloth, complete with wide cartoon eyes and a playful grin. The result? A tree that looks like it’s straight out of a Tim Burton film — part spooky, part adorable.
Locals are calling it “the largest ghost in Southeast Asia”, and photos of the design have quickly gone viral across social media platforms.
According to The Standard, CentralWorld’s team wanted to create a one-of-a-kind attraction that merges two beloved celebrations — Halloween and Christmas — into a single whimsical experience.
“We wanted to bring joy, humor, and a sense of wonder to the holiday season,” a CentralWorld representative said. “Spooky Boo” is meant to be both fun and imaginative — something that people will remember.”

Beyond the viral “ghost tree,” CentralWorld is hosting a series of Halloween-themed activities for locals and tourists alike. The event features:
- Art exhibitions in collaboration with BKKIF (Bangkok Illustration Fair)
- Handicraft villages and creative workshops
- Costume parades and live Halloween music performances
All activities will run until October 31, transforming the mall into a lively House of Horror for both families and partygoers.
This year’s Halloween celebration follows the nationwide theme “House of Horror: One House, Every Kind of Monster.” Across 13 Central malls in Thailand, visitors can explore immersive haunted houses inspired by both Thai folklore ghosts and international horror icons — all reimagined with a playful, artistic touch.
Each location offers a distinct theme, inviting guests to “play with fear”, push their comfort zones, and embrace the thrill of being scared in style.
While some netizens are joking about the “possessed Christmas tree”, many others are praising Thailand’s clever cultural mashup. “Only Thailand could make a ghost this cute!” and “It’s spooky, funny, and festive at the same time — pure genius!”
The Spooky Boo installation has already become Bangkok’s hottest selfie spot, proving that the holiday spirit — haunted or not — is alive and well in Thailand.
