The popular girl groups ≠ME and ≒JOY were originally announced for GIGA・GIGA SONIC on October 18, while FRUITS ZIPPER and CUTIE STREET were slated to perform at SAMURAI SONIC on October 19. However, none of the appearances will take place.

According to their agencies, Asobi Systems and Yoyogi Animation Academy, the groups had never agreed to perform at either event. In fact, both agencies were shocked to discover the groups’ names featured on official promotional materials. The idols themselves were also unaware of the supposed bookings.

Festival organizers confirmed that their dealings had been with individuals posing as legitimate representatives, who turned out to be scammers with no ties to the actual agencies.

“After announcing the line-ups, we received communication from the agencies and confirmed the contracts had been made with people falsely claiming to represent them. These individuals were not affiliated with Asobi Systems or Yoyogi Animation Academy. We, along with other involved companies, have suffered damages and are now cooperating with police while pursuing legal action,” GIGA・GIGA SONIC stated.

Despite the setback, both events will continue with the rest of their scheduled artists. Fans who purchased tickets specifically to see ≠ME, ≒JOY, FRUITS ZIPPER, or CUTIE STREET will be fully refunded.
