Hong Ri-na, who debuted in 1987 with the drama Blue Classroom, made her mark in Korean television with diverse roles. She showcased refined charisma in historical dramas like Jo Gwang-jo and The Dawn of the Empire, and lighthearted comedic charm in sitcoms such as Honest Living.

Her most memorable performance came in the national hit drama Jewel in the Palace, where she portrayed the cold yet elegant antagonist Choi Geum-young, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

However, during the peak of her career in 1997, tragedy struck when she fell from a 30-meter cliff while filming the drama Mountain. The accident left her with severe injuries to her back and legs, forcing her into nearly a year of rehabilitation. Her eventual return to acting highlighted her resilience and determination.
Despite her successful comeback in both dramas and sitcoms, Hong Ri-na abruptly ended her career in 2006 following her marriage. For nearly two decades, she stepped away from the spotlight.

Her long absence ended last year when she made a surprise voice appearance on TV Chosun’s Song Seung-hwan’s Invitation, thanks to her longtime friend, actress Chae Shi-ra. Although she did not appear on screen, Chae immediately recognized her voice and warmly greeted her, moving fans who had missed her presence.
Hong Ri-na revealed that she has been living in the United States for the past 18 to 19 years, focusing on family and raising her children. She admitted that she never intentionally quit acting but became fully devoted to motherhood, with time passing more quickly than expected.

Playfully, she left the door open for a possible return, joking that she might one day reappear as “the villain who steals Chae Shi-ra’s husband.” Her words sparked excitement among fans, who are hopeful that she may return to the screen.
After 20 years, hearing Hong Ri-na’s unchanged voice brought back fond memories for many, rekindling anticipation for the day she might make her acting comeback.
