Suzy’s path to stardom began in the most unexpected way. In 2009, she auditioned for Superstar K in the Gwangju region and successfully passed the preliminaries. However, it was on her way to the bathroom afterward that fate intervened — a JYP Entertainment scout noticed her natural beauty and aura, casting her on the spot despite her casual look with tied-back hair and a quiet hum.

Suzy debuted as an actress in the 2011 KBS drama Dream High, which earned her the KBS Drama Award for Best New Actress. The following year, she starred in the hit film Architecture 101, which brought her the title of “Nation’s First Love” and the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actress, cementing her status as one of Korea’s most beloved rising stars.
From there, Suzy built a solid career with roles in Gu Family Book, Uncontrollably Fond, While You Were Sleeping, Vagabond, Start-Up, Anna, and Doona!. Her performances earned widespread recognition, while her commercial success as the “CF Queen” saw her represent top brands, including luxury giants Dior and Lancôme.

Most recently, Suzy starred in screenwriter Kim Eun-sook’s Netflix series Genie, Make a Wish, alongside Kim Woo-bin. The fantasy rom-com, about a lamp spirit who awakens after a thousand years and encounters an emotionless human, quickly rose to No.1 on Korea’s Netflix TOP10 chart.
In addition, she co-starred with Lee Jin-wook in the film Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted, which tells the story of strangers bonding over heartbreak in a morning gathering. The film was invited to the competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, selling out all screenings and building anticipation ahead of its official release.
