On October 3, Lee Jung Jae was honored with the Charlie Chaplin Award Asia at a ceremony held in Singapore. The Charlie Chaplin Award, presented annually by Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) in New York, is one of the most esteemed lifetime achievement awards in the film industry. Since the introduction of its Asia category in 2018, the award has recognized legendary figures such as Tony Leung, director Zhang Yimou, and Brigitte Lin, but never before a Korean artist—until now.

According to the organizers, Lee was selected for his continuous and positive contributions to Asian cinema through works that resonate with audiences worldwide. His influence in bridging Asian stories with global viewers was highlighted as a key factor in his historic win.

In his acceptance speech, Lee expressed both humility and determination: “Receiving an award in the name of the great Charlie Chaplin, a filmmaker and artist I deeply respect, makes me nervous and emotional. I will continue striving to create a positive impact as an Asian actor and filmmaker.”

Following the global success of Squid Game, which cemented his international status, Lee Jung Jae is set to return to Korean television next month in tvN’s upcoming drama Nice to Not Meet You.
