At the press conference held on September 29 at the Josun Palace Hotel in Seoul, the main cast Kim Woo Bin, Suzy, Ahn Eun Jin, Noh Sang Hyun, Ko Kyu Pil, and Lee Joo Young gathered to discuss the highly anticipated drama Genie, Make a Wish.

Playing the role of Kayoung, a psychopathic character devoid of emotions, Suzy admitted, “I always felt guilty toward Woo Bin. Normally, in acting, you react and interact with your partner, but since Kayoung processes things in her own way, she doesn’t nod or give backchannel responses. That meant Woo Bin often had to act out long monologues on his own.”

She continued, “As the story deepens, Kayoung gradually starts to feel emotions. I tried hard to restrain both physical and emotional expressions, which made the performance challenging.”

When asked about reuniting with Kim Woo Bin after their drama Uncontrollably Fond, Suzy replied, “I didn’t realize how much time had passed. Meeting him again through a completely different project and characters, I didn’t even recall the bittersweet feelings of that time—I just enjoyed working with him. It felt great.”

She added with a smile, “I felt our chemistry was even better than before. Though my character lacks emotions, since it’s a romantic comedy, we needed that quick back-and-forth, and it flowed naturally. He was still as considerate as ever, so filming was a happy experience.”

Genie, Make a Wish tells the whimsical love story of a lamp genie (Kim Woo Bin) who awakens after a thousand years and meets Kayoung (Suzy), a woman incapable of emotions. The two enter into a fantastical game of granting three wishes that intertwines comedy, romance, and fantasy. The series will premiere on Netflix on October 3.
