According to JTBC’s Scandal Supervisor on September 28, a customer identified as A visited the restaurant on September 19 and witnessed the disturbing event while waiting for their order. A saw a staff member, wearing blue gloves, pause food preparation to pull a garbage bag out of the trash bin. After discarding the bag, the employee returned to the cooking station and, without changing gloves, used tongs to place a cooked patty onto a bun. Shockingly, the worker then pressed the bun on top of the patty with the same trash-contaminated gloves before wrapping the burger—A’s order.
When confronted, the employee dismissed concerns, claiming, “These are special gloves, so it’s fine.” A called over the store manager, who initially accused A of “illegal filming” instead of addressing the hygiene violation. Even after A presented video evidence, the manager arrogantly asked, “So, do you just want a new burger?” before reluctantly apologizing after further pressure.
Unsatisfied, A reported the case to the franchise headquarters. However, the head office merely issued a generic apology without outlining any corrective measures, prompting A to escalate the issue to the local public health office.
Netizens expressed outrage, mocking the employee’s excuse: “Special gloves? Do they clean themselves?” Others commented, “Gloves are for protecting hands, not food safety,” and cynically added, “Many restaurants do this because they’re too lazy to change gloves. Bare hands might even be cleaner.”
