On September 26, the closing ceremony of the 30th BIFF took place at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae, Busan, hosted by actress Claudia Kim (Soo Hyun). Five categories of the newly launched “Busan Awards” were presented, including the Grand Prize, Best Director, Special Jury Award, Best Actor/Actress, and Artistic Contribution Award.

Among the 14 films in competition were Gloaming in Luomu (China), Spying Stars (Sri Lanka), Resurrection (China-France), Two Seasons, Two Strangers (Japan), Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan-France-USA-UK), Leave the Cat Alone (Japan), By Another Name (Korea), Another Birth (Tajikistan-USA-Qatar), Girl (Taiwan), 7 O’Clock Breakfast Meeting for the Heartbroken (Korea), Baka’s Identity (Japan), En Route To (Korea), Funky Freaky Freaks (Korea), and Without Permission (Iran-UK).

The Grand Prize was awarded to Gloaming in Luomu, with Zhang Lü expressing his gratitude, recalling that he had previously received the New Currents Award at the 10th BIFF two decades ago. “I will make sure to stand on this stage again in the centennial year,” he said, adding his continued affection for the festival and the city of Busan.

The most anticipated award of the evening, the Best Actor/Actress Award, went to Lee Ji-won, who first gained recognition as Yum Jung-ah’s second daughter in the hit drama Sky Castle. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lee took the stage, saying, “I’m so nervous. My father told me earlier, ‘Ji-won, you never know, so prepare a speech.’ I’ll listen to him from now on. I’ll continue to work hard to become not only a great actress but also a great person.”

The Ensemble Acting Award went to Kitamura Takumi, Ayano Go, and Hayashi Yuta for their roles in Baka’s Identity. Hayashi expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m very nervous. Thank you so much to all the staff of Baka’s Identity. I am deeply honored to receive this award alongside my fellow actors.”

The Best Director Award was presented to Shu Qi for her directorial debut Girl, the Special Jury Award went to Han Chang-rok’s Funky Freaky Freaks, and the Artistic Contribution Award was given to Liu Qiang and Tu Nan for Resurrection.
