Oh My Girl member YooA took on her first film role in Project Y, which tells the story of Misun (Han So-hee) and Dokyung (Jeon Jong-seo), who steal hidden black money and gold bars in an attempt to escape their harsh realities. The movie was selected for the “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” section at BIFF and quickly became one of the most talked-about works, selling out all screenings immediately after ticket sales opened.
YooA attended the opening ceremony, open talk, and GV event at the festival alongside director Lee Hwan, Han So-hee, and Jeon Jong-seo. Appearing with a deeper aura and stunning visuals, YooA shared her thoughts on her first film role, Ha Kyung: “I thought this character might give people who remember me in my past image a refreshing sense of betrayal, and I was convinced this could be a good starting point for me as an actress.”
She added, “One of my small goals is to shock many people and to be remembered as actress YooA through this Project Y and this time.” During the GV session, she expressed gratitude: “I was so happy to work with such great actors, producers, and staff. Seeing the audience completely immersed in the movie throughout made me truly thankful.”
YooA first debuted in 2015 with the idol group Oh My Girl, producing numerous hits and later gaining recognition as a solo artist. In June, she signed an exclusive contract with Saram Entertainment, signaling her commitment to pursue acting in earnest. Having already captivated the public with her expressive performances on stage, YooA is now expected to showcase her unique presence and ability to embody dynamic characters as an actress.
In Project Y, YooA plays a pivotal role in the storyline, impressing audiences with a natural and skillful performance that seemed far beyond a debut effort. Her bold image transformation and surprising depth left viewers stunned, confirming that her first steps as an actress are nothing short of promising.
Project Y is scheduled for domestic release in the second half of the year.
