On the September 24 episode of TV Chosun’s variety show Over-Immersed Club, Jo Jae-yoon appeared as a guest and spoke about his current work. In the drama, he plays a chef from the Ming Dynasty envoy — a role that demanded far more preparation than viewers might expect.

When asked by Super Junior’s Leeteuk if his role required speaking Chinese, Jo Jae-yoon replied: “I had to do Chinese, cooking, martial arts… and there’s even one more thing.”

He then showed a notebook filled with Chinese dialogue practice, demonstrating the intense effort he put into mastering the role.

Co-star Chae Jung-an directly asked whether juggling multiple jobs in one role came with higher pay. Jo Jae-yoon laughed and responded: “I filmed for 11 months and prepared for 2 months. But because it was a special appearance, my pay was actually reduced.”

He added that director Jang Jae-yu even teased him during filming, asking, “Did you study Andy Lau movies before coming here?” Jo Jae-yoon explained he filled an entire notebook with memorized lines.

Despite the lower pay, Jo Jae-yoon’s dedication is clear. Known as a scene-stealer in countless K-dramas and films, he continues to impress audiences with his versatility — whether as a villain, comic relief, or, in this case, a chef caught up in political intrigue.

Fans praised his professionalism, noting how his willingness to go the extra mile reflects why he remains one of Korea’s most respected supporting actors.
