CORTIS plagiarism Travis Scott
CORTIS plagiarism Travis Scott

The discussion over originality in K-pop has flared up again, this time surrounding rookie group CORTIS. Korean netizens are questioning whether one of the group’s tracks was plagiarized from Travis Scott’s hit “FE!N.”

  1. CORTIS – “FaSHioN” to A$AP Rocky – “Praise the Lord”
  2. CORTIS – “GO!” to Travis Scott “FE!N”
  3. CORTIS “JoyRide” to Post Malone “Circles.”

The debate began after a post on community forum Instiz read: “CORTIS’ fashion track sounded so familiar, and I realized there’s a Travis Scott song that’s basically the same. It’s FE!N.” The post quickly went viral, sparking a wave of comments and divided opinions online.

  • Yeah, I agree… the first time I heard it, it sounded so similar.
  • Honestly, if you listen to pop songs, you’d know. K-pop copies a lot of pop songs.
  • It makes you wonder if they just bought the track.
  • The whole album feels heavily influenced by Scott and Rocky. Even if K-pop copies pop songs, the similarity here is so strong it comes to mind immediately… and people overseas are calling them copycats.
  • But there are already a lot of similar songs overseas. At this point, it’s a genre, but it seems like there are constantly posts on communities saying they sound similar.
  • K-pop became a hotbed of plagiarism because fans defended it and forcibly silenced accusations of plagiarism.
  • Trap beats are common, and the composer even gave a shout-out, so what’s the problem?
  • So, did Scott copy Rocky too? Lol.
  • Whether you’re a fan or a company employee, you’re working hard in the comments. If there are so many similar songs, why can’t you bring them up?

While plagiarism debates in K-pop are not new, fans claim this case is particularly obvious, with even overseas forums discussing the similarity. Some argue that plagiarism in the industry has long been overlooked, but the accusations against CORTIS may force the conversation to resurface.

CORTIS

At the time of writing, neither CORTIS nor their agency has released an official statement addressing the plagiarism accusations.
