On September 23, during an interview for the crime-thriller black comedy film No Other Choice (directed by Park Chan-wook, produced by Moho Film), Son Ye-jin reflected on her role as Lee Mi-ri, the wife of Mansoo (played by Lee Byung-hun), a man who becomes stronger in times of crisis.

Son recalled, “I remember my first day of filming. After giving birth, I spent so much time focusing on childcare that I had forgotten certain feelings. Many working moms say their first day back after maternity leave feels like liberation, and I was the same. I was anxious, thinking my son couldn’t do without me, but the moment I stepped outside, it felt like, ‘This is what I missed.’ Even the travel time in the car felt blissful. Spending three hours on the road felt like rest. I began to enjoy the film set and acting again. In the past, it felt like just work, but now it’s refreshing and makes me happy. Of course, acting is still hard, but even the struggles felt precious.

She added, “After giving birth, everything in my life—literally from one to ten—changed. My time changed, too. These days, I can barely remember what kind of actress I used to be. Every day I push a stroller to the playground and play with my son. Sometimes other moms quietly approach me to say they’re fans, even gifting me coffee. They must be surprised seeing me in such an unstyled, ordinary state. Since my son is alone, I often take him to the playground so he won’t feel lonely. We even made friends with twins there. My lifestyle has changed completely. Being a mom comes first now, and I’ve become a happy mom who still finds joy in work. I realize I can exercise and continue working thanks to my family and career. I’ve also come to appreciate that mothers everywhere are doing something extraordinary—I think moms around the world share that bond.

Regarding a second child, she revealed, “In my heart, I’d like to have three, but it’s not easy as a working mom. As for raising our child, my husband (Hyun Bin) and I don’t clash. He respects my opinions, and since we share similar values, we don’t really disagree.

No Other Choice follows the story of an office worker, Mansoo, who suddenly loses his job despite believing he had achieved everything. Struggling to protect his wife and two children and hold onto their home, he prepares for his own battle to find reemployment. The film stars Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, and Cha Seung-won, directed by Park Chan-wook of Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave. It will be released on September 24.
