On September 23, Jun Ji-hyun’s representatives told Spotv News, “It is not true that her Chinese commercial shoot was canceled.”
The rumors stemmed from a scene in Disney+ original series Tempest, where Jun Ji-hyun’s character, Seo Moon-joo, remarks: “Why does China favor war? A nuclear bomb could fall on the border region.” The line sparked strong reactions from some Chinese fans, leading to speculation that advertisers had cut ties with the actress.

Soon after, rumors spread that her scheduled commercial filming in China had been canceled. Her agency quickly refuted the claim, clarifying that while some events and shoots were postponed, none were canceled. “The delays were decided even before Tempest was released, due to local circumstances,” they explained.
Tempest follows international diplomat Moon-joo (played by Jun Ji-hyun) as she investigates the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate. Teaming up with mysterious agent San-ho (played by Kang Dong-won), she confronts a conspiracy threatening the Korean Peninsula. The series marks the highly anticipated first collaboration between Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won.
Despite the brief controversy, Jun Ji-hyun continues to be one of Korea’s most bankable stars, and anticipation for Tempest remains high.
