On September 11, Choi Siwon uploaded an image with the words “REST IN PEACE” alongside Charlie Kirk’s face, a cross symbol, and a photo of the deceased with his family. He also shared a Bible verse, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” to express his condolences. However, the post disappeared within hours as controversy arose over Kirk’s polarizing reputation.

Charlie Kirk, founder and head of the right-wing organization Turning Point USA and a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot during a debate event at Utah Valley University on September 10 (local time). He was struck in the neck and later died in the hospital. The shooting occurred immediately after Kirk responded to an audience question regarding transgender mass shooters in the U.S.
Following his death, President Trump ordered flags flown at half-staff until September 14 in Kirk’s honor. While Kirk was known for promoting Christian values and conservative causes, he was also heavily criticized for opposing gun control and making discriminatory remarks about minorities.

In response to the backlash, Siwon posted an explanation on a fan communication platform. He emphasized that his tribute was not about politics but about the tragedy of a man losing his life in front of students:
“He was a Christian, a husband, and a family man. Regardless of ideology, losing his life in such a way is heartbreaking. That is why I mourned him.”

He added that he deleted the post after noticing it was being interpreted differently than intended, insisting his intentions were sincere.
However, rather than calming the controversy, Siwon’s clarification has fueled further anger. Critics argue his remarks downplay Kirk’s history of spreading hate and suggest the idol knew about Kirk’s views but chose to ignore their impact.
The incident continues to intensify calls from some fans for Siwon to step away from the group, marking one of the most polarizing scandals in his career.
