On September 9, actress Hwang Seung-eon addressed questions about her younger sister’s marriage, telling OSEN, “This isn’t something I should comment on. I’m sorry.” Her polite yet firm reply was widely seen as a way to respect and protect her sister, who is not a public figure.
Earlier, a media outlet reported in May that actor Kwon Yul’s wife was Hwang Seung-eon’s younger sister, Hwang [First Name Unspecified]. Kwon Yul’s agency, Team Hope, stated: “The actress’s wife is a non-celebrity. We cannot confirm specific family-related details,” expressing a cautious stance regarding the private nature of the marriage.
News of Kwon Yul and Hwang’s wedding broke just days before the ceremony. On May 24, the couple held a solemn, private wedding at a church in Seoul, attended only by close family and friends.
Hwang Seung-eon’s sister had previously appeared with her in a 2015 episode of t-cast Follow Me 7. The sisters participated in a joint photoshoot, drawing attention with comments like, “Superior genes,” and “Your sister looks like Liu Yifei,” sparking buzz at the time.
Interestingly, Hwang Seung-eon and Kwon Yul’s connection predates the marriage. Both appeared in the 2015 tvN drama Let’s Eat 2. Kwon Yul played the romantic lead Lee Sang-woo, while Hwang Seung-eon portrayed the popular character Hye-rim, leaving a strong impression on viewers. Kwon Yul debuted in the 2007 SBS drama Run, Mackerel! and has since built a steady acting career with roles in My Daughter Seo-young, Whisper, Voice 2–3, Mental Coach Jegal Gil, and Let’s Eat 2. He is also set to appear in the dramas Connection and A Woman Who Plays, as well as making his stage debut in the play Amadeus.
