On September 6, Yubin uploaded the first episode of her channel Yubin’s Spotlight, which featured a surprise Wonder Girls get-together. Fans quickly noticed Sunmi’s absence, prompting Yubin to address it directly.
Sunmi revealed that a scheduling conflict kept her from attending but admitted she felt a pang of regret: “I thought to myself, that should have been my spot. The thumbnail looked so beautiful with all of them together. Groups really shine when everyone is in one frame.”
She then lightheartedly confessed that group variety shows still make her nervous. “Honestly, I don’t have quick wit, and it’s because of Wonder Girls. Hyerim might be different, but if we think about us doing a group variety show now… it would be risky. I filter my words too much, so it feels like I’d cause a broadcast accident.”
Yubin agreed, recalling JYP’s strict artist training: “They always told us to answer after three seconds. But for us, it’s more like ten seconds.” Sunmi joked, “Yes, our buffering takes way too long—it could be a problem on TV.”
Despite her absence, Sunmi expressed nostalgia, recalling their band era and revealing how she insisted on playing bass instead of standing alone as a vocalist when JYP once suggested it.
She also shared which Wonder Girls songs she would have loved to perform again: “2 Different Tears” and “Be My Baby.” Meanwhile, she admitted “Like This” was her least favorite: “My knees weren’t good, and I couldn’t keep up with the high-energy choreography.”
Currently preparing for her comeback, Sunmi recently released a trailer titled Sunmi Comeback Trailer: Bass, featuring a striking opening scene created using powerful sound vibrations. She revealed even JYP himself was impressed, asking how it was filmed.
With her honesty and humor, Sunmi reminded fans that while she couldn’t join the reunion this time, her heart for Wonder Girls—and her unique wit—remains unchanged.
