Actress Park Min-young has emphasized the stark differences between her new role in Confidence Queen and her acclaimed performance in Marry My Husband. Speaking at the press conference held in Sangam-dong, Seoul on September 1, Park revealed that she endured over three hours of special effects makeup for the role, adding with a smile that she hoped her effort would pay off.
The drama, directed by Nam Ki-hoon and starring Park Min-young alongside Park Hee-soon and Joo Jong-hyuk, tells the story of three con artists who use their unique talents to scam corrupt figures of modern society. The caper-style black comedy is also set to make history as Amazon Prime Video’s first Korean original series, premiering simultaneously in 199 countries, including South Korea.

Park Min-young plays Yoon Yi-rang, the genius leader of the team, who uses her top 1% intellect to deceive villains while bringing a lively, quirky energy to the role. Park previously led the hit drama Marry My Husband, which recorded peak viewership ratings of 12% (Nielsen Korea), solidifying her status as a leading actress. While modest about the idea of guaranteeing success, she admitted feeling both pressure and responsibility, saying, “Because it’s Amazon Prime’s first Korean original, I worked hard with a sense of duty while enjoying the process.”
Reflecting on her new role, Park explained, “Each character is full of individuality and vibrance. I wanted something active and energetic, and this time, I had the chance to be more dynamic and take charge.” Unlike her previous portrayal of Kang Ji-won, a woman who witnesses her husband’s betrayal and gets a second chance at life, Yoon Yi-rang is complex, with sociopathic tendencies and a hidden past. “It wasn’t easy transforming into this character, but it was fascinating and rewarding,” she said.

Park also expressed gratitude to actor Lee Yi-kyung, who made a special cameo despite his busy schedule. “In my last project, he played the trashy husband, but this time he appears as a kind younger brother. It felt like the lingering bitterness was washed away.”
She teased that her character pushes boundaries, even swearing and smoking on screen, thanks to the director’s openness to creative input. “All the actors had freedom to explore, and that energy really shows,” Park added.
Director Nam praised Park highly, saying, “She was always an actress I wanted to work with. I realized successful actors are truly different—they’re smart and dependable, and I found myself leaning on her during production.”
Alongside Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon plays James, the team’s emotional anchor, while Joo Jong-hyuk takes on the role of Myung Gu-ho, the goofy but endearing youngest member.
Confidence Queen premieres on TV Chosun and Coupang Play on September 6 at 9:10 PM.
