In a video uploaded on August 31 to the YouTube channel “IMOS Jeon Somi“, Jeon Somi candidly recalled a bittersweet moment when she received a public love confession.

While doing her makeup, Somi recounted, “Someone asked me during lunch if I had ever been confessed to. I was so embarrassed I thought I would die.” She continued, “As many of you know, I was bullied in elementary school. So when this guy confessed, I didn’t know if he was being genuine, if it was a joke, or if he was just trying to make fun of me.”

She revealed that the confession took place in the school cafeteria, right at a time when her bullying situation was just beginning to ease. “It was during lunch, in front of everyone. I ran away, but he followed me and pulled out a rose. That’s when I realized, ‘Oh, he’s actually sincere.’ Even though I was being bullied, I still thought, ‘Well, I guess I’m pretty.’ But I rejected him with, ‘I’m sorry, let’s just stay good friends.’ That was the end of it.”

Jeon Somi also shared an unexpected follow-up to the story years later, recalling how she ran into the same boy again. “A few years after that, I went to ride the Disco Pang Pang with Lee Dae-hwi and Natty. He turned out to be the DJ. It was after ‘Sixteen’, when people in Sinchon were starting to recognize me. He said, ‘It’s been a while. I’ve been watching your show.’”

This isn’t the first time Jeon Somi has spoken about her struggles with bullying. In 2023, she appeared on the YouTube channel “By PDC“, where she opened up to actress Song Yoon-ah about her painful experiences growing up as a child of a multicultural family in Korea. She revealed that she was bullied from third to sixth grade and endured severe harassment. Somi tearfully admitted, “I told my mom I didn’t want to go to school and even asked her to get me plastic surgery so I could look more like a Korean kid.” Her emotional confession at the time moved many fans.

Now, years later, Jeon Somi continues to share her past with honesty, giving fans a glimpse of the challenges that shaped her resilience and growth as both an artist and a person.
