On the August 27 broadcast of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, director Maggie Kang, who helmed KPop Demon Hunters—a project that took seven years to complete—appeared as a special guest. Kang revealed that she personally researched locations across Korea, from Jeju Island to Bukchon, in order to capture authentic details for the animated film. Iconic sites such as COEX, Jamsil Sports Complex, and Namsan Tower were also featured in the movie.

Kang praised Lee Byung-hun, who voiced the character Gwima, saying, “His voice has so much charisma. The moment he read his lines, we were all in awe. Just his presence alone gave the film an undeniable ‘Korean movie’ authenticity.” Kang herself also voiced several minor characters, including a flight attendant, a demon, and a narrator, while much of the production team involved Korean artists to ensure cultural details were accurate.

A preview clip for next week’s You Quiz showed Lee Byung-hun discussing his son’s candid reaction to the film. “After Squid Game, my son kept asking, ‘Dad, why are you always the bad guy? Are you a villain actor?’ I told him I play good roles too,” Lee explained. Since his son couldn’t watch many of his previous works due to age restrictions, Lee thought KPop Demon Hunters, being an animation, was the perfect opportunity.

He revealed that they watched the film together multiple times. “When my son asked who I was, I said, ‘I don’t have a form.’ Then he asked if I was a villain, and I eventually admitted, ‘I’m the Demon King,’” Lee recalled. Initially, his son supported him, saying, “I want Dad to win.” Lee was moved, but as the movie progressed, the child’s reaction shifted. “By the end, he looked at me disappointed and said, ‘Dad, you really are bad,’” Lee shared, causing laughter.
