At a press conference held on August 22 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul, Director Maggie Kang offered a cryptic response regarding the fate of Saja Boys’ Jinu. The character appears to die in the climactic finale, but according to Kang: “No one knows what lies ahead. Doesn’t Korean content often lean toward tragedy?”

Her statement leaves the door open for speculation and possibly even a sequel. With K-Pop Demon Hunters achieving critical and commercial success since its June 20 Netflix debut becoming the platform’s top animated film and second most-watched movie overall many are hopeful that the story isn’t over just yet.

The film follows Huntress, a girl group of K-pop idols by day and fierce demon slayers by night, as they battle Saja Boys, a rival boy group whose members double as actual demons threatening humanity. The dynamic between Rumi and Jinu offered a poignant emotional arc, making his apparent death one of the film’s most heartbreaking moments.

Featuring a star-studded voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Yunjin, Joel Kim Booster, Daniel Dae Kim, Lee Byung-hun, and Ken Jeong, the animated feature blends high-octane fantasy with K-pop glamour and emotional storytelling.

While Kang didn’t confirm or deny Jinu’s fate, her words have kept the fan theories alive and with the film’s runaway success, the future of KPop Demon Hunters may still hold more surprises.
