At the production briefing held on August 19 at CGV Yongsan in Seoul, actress Son Ye-jin recently revealed a humorous behind-the-scenes moment from her latest film, No Other Choice, directed by Park Chan-wook. Son Ye-jin opened up about her mindset going into the project.
“It felt like I was a rookie again. I was very curious to work with the director and to see how my senior, Lee Byung-hun, acts on set. I didn’t have a big plan for how to portray Mi-ri—I just wanted to experience the process,” she shared.
Despite her humble remarks, Park Chan-wook jokingly contradicted her: “That’s a lie. While Cha Seung-won can say his role was small because he hasn’t seen the film yet, Ye-jin has seen it. Her character dominates the latter half of the movie.”
Son Ye-jin also shared a funny anecdote about her dance scenes, which were ultimately cut from the film. “I practiced dancing so much, for nearly three months,” she said. “But the director told me, ‘I thought you’d be better since you practiced so much.’ I was shocked! He blatantly said, ‘It’s not quite there,’ and that’s why those scenes were all edited out.”

No Other Choice is a dark comedy about a man named Mansu (Lee Byung-hun) who suddenly loses his job and prepares for a battle to protect his family and reclaim his life. The film is slated for release in September.
